Mike Pignéguy Professional Skipper
From
the age of four Mike
Pignéguy has always been involved with boats and ships. A 42ft (12.8m) launch
on the Hamble River, the yachting centre on England's South Coast, was
home until he went to sea as a Cadet Navigating Officer, when just 16 years old.
Arriving in New Zealand in 1964, he met and married Dee the following year.
After sailing as Chief Officer he decided not to raom so far from home and
exchanged big anchors for smaller ones !
The family
have always had boats that just got larger, and from 1984 to 1999 , Mike and Dee
owned and operated the 96ft(30m) 'Te Aroha' out of Auckland, taking
20 passengers on 3 and 5 day Natural History Cruises on New Zealand's wonderful
North Island's Northland Coast
Over the years Mike
has also freelanced as skipper on other charter boats and superyachts, not only
around the New Zealand coast but also in the South Pacific, the Inside Passage
of British Columbia and South East Alaska, the East and West Coasts of the USA and
the Bahamas. 2005 saw Mike skippering superyachts in the Mediterranean, the
stunning Seychelle Islands and Mauritius.
He is also
sought after to train captains and crews that are new to the superyacht
industry.
Super and megayachts have also employed Mike as a coastal pilot because of
his intimate knowledge of the New Zealand Coast and its people.
